Your hoodie still in my backseat
Been there like three damn weeks
I could drop it off, that’s easy
But then you’d know I still think—
Never mind
That’s not what I mean
I took the long way home last night
Past your street accidentally
Yeah, right
You changed your hair
I saw the post
Didn’t hit like
Still watched it twice though
My boys say, “Bro, let that shit go”
I’m like, “I did”
Then your name lights up my phone
And I forget what cool is
So I type
then delete
then type
then leave it
You go out
I go out
Like neither one sees it
Whole room loud
but somehow
I hear your name
That’s insane
We act normal
Like I don’t know your car outside
We act normal
You don’t look, I don’t look, alright
You say, “I’m good”
I say, “Same”
Both know that’s cap
but we play that game
We act normal
So damn normal
Till it’s 2 AM
Act normal
Act normal
Don’t call me—
I might answer
Act normal
Act normal
Don’t miss me—
Yeah, whatever
Saw your friend at the function
She gave me that look, no words
Like she knows ‚bout the Sunday
You pulled up in my old shirt
That’s cold
Low-key funny though
You left your drink by the speaker
Same lime, same tequila
Some dude leaned in to meet ya
I looked away—
then looked again
Damn
I hate that I know your tells
Lip bite when you’re uncomfortable
You hate that I know you well
That’s probably why this got difficult
We got too good
at acting chill
Two strangers with receipts
and history still
So you type
then delete
I know
I seen it
Three dots there
then they’re gone
Girl, quit playin‘
Whole room loud
but somehow
you say my name
Now who’s insane?
We act normal
Like I don’t know your car outside
We act normal
You don’t look, I don’t look, alright
You say, “I’m good”
I say, “Same”
Both know that’s cap
but we play that game
We act normal
So damn normal
Till it’s 2 AM
Act normal
Act normal
Don’t call me—
I might answer
Act normal
Act normal
Don’t miss me—
Yeah, whatever
Truth?
I still know the code to your gate
Still know you hate being late
Still know when you say “it’s cool”
It ain’t
You still know I drive when I’m mad
Still know the shit with my dad
Still know exactly which joke
gets me back
So what are we doing?
For real
What are we doing?
‚Cause strangers don’t know all that
We act normal
Like I don’t know your car outside
We act normal
Like your eyes ain’t been on mine all night
You say, “I’m good”
I say, “Same”
Both start laughing
‚cause we’re bad at this game
We act normal
So damn normal
But you’re here again
Act normal
Yeah, good luck with that
Act normal
You can stop pretending
Don’t call me—
Nah
Call me
We Act Normal lives in the space between what two people feel and what they are willing to show.
They are in the same room, surrounded by noise, drinks and other people, carrying on as if nothing between them has changed. No confrontation, no dramatic goodbye — just glances held a little too long, familiar habits, and the quiet effort of making something unresolved look ordinary. The title becomes their unspoken agreement: whatever is happening underneath, we act normal.
Musically, the song puts that tension inside a restrained roots-reggae and ska framework. A deep one-drop pulse keeps everything composed while melodica, Hammond stabs, icy synth textures and controlled dub echoes introduce a colder, more unsettled layer. The production deliberately avoids the looseness of a live-session aesthetic; every element has its place, mirroring two people trying to keep their own emotions contained.
Even the two tequila shots at the center of the artwork tell the story without showing the relationship directly: two drinks, side by side, while the people themselves disappear into the room behind them.
We Act Normal isn’t really about pretending nothing happened. It’s about that strangely human moment when both people know something is still there — and both decide not to be the one who says it first.
Roots reggae with ska revival, one melodica lead carrying the arrangement through a sparse intro and layered build: clean offbeat guitar chops, pulsing sub bass, Hammond organ stabs, icy analog pads, 74 BPM deep controlled one-drop groove, intimate close-mic English baritone with subtle vocal fry and restrained conversational delivery, tight dry studio drums with punchy kick and precise rimshot, isolated instrumentation, tight transients, minimal room ambience, polished analog-console character, focused stereo image, spring reverb, controlled tape echo tails, selective dub siren ghost transitions, ‑EDM festival drops, ‑bright bubblegum pop, ‑pop-punk, ‑acoustic singer-songwriter, ‑country, ‑retro synthwave, ‑funk disco, ‑boom-bap, ‑aggressive drill, ‑hard trap, ‑cinematic orchestral, ‑gospel choir, ‑theatrical vocals, ‑excessive melisma, ‑glossy maximalist production, ‑huge arena drums, ‑cheerful major-key feel, ‑novelty vocals
